And Samsung's BatteryLife Plus technology extends the battery life up to 1,500 charging cycles (3 years).I opened the box this afternoon and have been playing around with the machine. So far every thing is as expected.
It is nice having a full keyboard. So far it feels great although it may take a little while to get used to where a few of the keys are.
The track pad is a bit less responsive than I like but I don't really like track pads anyhow so I'm probably a bad judge. I had an external mouse plugged in before windows finished its initial boot.
I like the screen. I haven't had it out in bright light but glare seems to be minimal and the brightness has been sufficient.
It is not really a gaming laptop but still runs games nicely with the graphics at reasonably high settings although the left side where the fan vents gets a little hot when it is working hard but that is to be expected.
The sound is great. Some of the best sound I've heard yet from a laptop.
The body feels and looks solid with the exception of the optical drive drawer which sticks out a little.
The screen seems pretty solid. It does flex easily if you exert pressure on both corners in different directions but you can close and open it from near a corner without it flexing to much and the image is never distorted from the flexing.
I haven't tested the battery yet so I don't know about battery life.
I also haven't tested the webcam or mic yet.
Over all I would say it is a great machine.
I'll update with more details after I've had it for a while and used it some more.
EDIT:
The space bar squeaks the optical drive button is in just the wrong place so I eject the tray every other time I pick the computer up. I understand making this kind of mistake on a computer design ten years or so ago when laptops were still relatively new, but come on, you've been making them long enough you should get this right by now.
I've had this laptop for roughly 1 week and have thoroughly enjoyed the speed and style of the machine. It has a windows experience index of 5.9, which was lowered due to the performance of the hard drive.
Experience Index subscores:
Processor - 7.6
Memory - 7.8
Graphics - 6.7
Gaming Graphics - 6.7
Primary Hard Disk - 5.9
I'm sure if you buy a SSD hard drive and install it, it will become faster, though I'm not sure it would be measurable through startup - the boot time on this machine is quite good, as advertised. I assume that with a faster hard drive, the things you would notice would consist mainly of file transfers and game load screen time. If these kinds of things aren't important to you, then this laptop will likely not be a problem for you.
The keys remind me of the keys you would normally see on a macbook, which, I think, adds to the overall look of tech-meeting-visual design.
One thing I did not like about this laptop is the trackpad... it doesn't seem sensitive enough. When I draw my finger across it, sometimes it doesn't register the movement and the mouse just sits there. This isn't really a problem for me, as I intend on just using a usb mouse for everything, so it might be something to take into consideration before purchasing.
Overall, this is a pretty good machine, and is competitively priced. Samsung is a relatively reliable company, so if anything should go wrong, I doubt it will be an issue for them to honor the warranty.
*****UPDATE*******
After a couple weeks or so of owning the laptop, I decided to give an update to its performance...
-Overall system speed and boot times remain quick. It turns on from dead in roughly 20-25 seconds. If it's asleep, 4-5 seconds.
-I decided to install Starcraft 2 on it to check out the graphics capabilities. The game runs very smoothly... I would say it's on par with the GTX280 in my desktop PC. Whenever the graphics card turns on (while playing the game), the left side becomes noticeably hot. I don't think this is a problem, as 99.999% of my gaming will be with the laptop on a table or desk, so I wont even really feel it. It doesnt feel so hot as to damage the computer, just would be uncomfortable in your lap (if gaming). During normal use, like browsing the internet, or writing this post, the bottom of the laptop is slightly above room temperature.
-One negative thing that I have noticed is the driver reaction time to the usb mouse that I plug into it. It's a Razer Lachesis, which, when plugged into my desktop PC (also windows 7), begins working immediately. When it plug it into this laptop, it can take upwards of 30 seconds for the input driver to allow you to use it. Kind of annoying, but not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things.
